Meet Mike & Marge
We’re a retired couple who traded routines for runways. We travel slow — weeks or months in one place — digging into local life, culture, and food. No rush. No checklists. Just real travel, honestly shared.
Hi, we’re Marge and Mike — the couple behind Passport Pillow. Originally from England, we spent 40 years building a life in the United States. Careers, family, routine… all the things that fill a chapter without you realising how quickly time moves.
But travel was always in our blood. Before we met, we each roamed independently — Marge backpacking through Spain and Italy with paper maps and guesswork, Mike hitchhiking across Europe, sleeping in train stations and surviving on cheap sandwiches. Those early adventures planted something in us. Life just pulled us in other directions for a while.
Once we married and had kids, exploring the world quietly became a someday idea. Then our kids left for college, we looked at each other, and thought: Why not now?
Our first empty-nester trip was Jamaica. Sitting by the ocean, rum punch in hand, the old spark came back.
Then came Portugal — twice — because we fell in love with the tiled streets and slow café mornings. Morocco challenged and inspired us in equal measure. And then came Thailand.
Thailand changed everything. It was there we asked ourselves the question that would reshape our lives: What if we didn’t go home this time? What if home could be anywhere?
We’ve been answering that question ever since.
Now we move through the world at our own pace — staying weeks or months in each place, shopping in local markets, cooking at home, riding public transport, wandering without a plan. We’re not sightseers. We’re settlers-in. Guests, not tourists.
Passport Pillow is where we share what that life actually looks like — the joy, the discomfort, the surprises, and the in-between moments that don’t make the highlight reel but make the experience real.
We want to show that slow travel is possible at any age, any stage, and especially after 50. It’s not too late. In many ways, it’s exactly the right time.
